Defining Moments

Author: Leading and Love

Unfortunately, many relationships end when someone steps outside of the clearly defined or perceived boundaries of the relationship. In some instances, one partner chooses betrayal instead of loyalty or inflicts injustice instead of fairness. Stepping outside the boundary or making a choice that brings pain is a defining moment for that relationship. On both sides, the responses to these events reveal our character. In all relationships we deal with some variations of this.

Idea #1

A defining moment is when one person's decision leads to an outcome that forces a critical response from their partner.

Idea #2

Failures or successes can be defining moments because the step that follows reflects your perspective on the recent outcome of success or failure.

Quote #1

“No one gets an easy pass in life. We all meet struggles while pursuing our dreams. Sometimes our knees shake when facing giants, and sometimes our feet get knocked out from under us. Those are defining moments.” -Jake Byrne

Quote #2

“Rarely if ever, moments come that are so defining in our lives. The years are glutted with benign matters which impact us more deeply than we could have ever imagined in our youth.” -Joel T. McGrath

Quote #3

“The truer measure of sacrifice isn't so much what one gives to sacrifice as what one sacrifices to give. Faith isn't tested so much when the cupboard is full as when it is bare. In these defining moments, the crisis doesn't create one's character, it reveals it.” -Lynn G. Robbins

Challenge

Be attentive to each moment in your life and ask yourself who you are asked to become at this point in time.

Affirmation

I am a student of life.
