Author: Leading and Love
No one likes to fail. It will leave a lousy feeling, even if the feeling is only temporary. Failure is often costly. It’s putting in time, money, effort only to fall short of the return. It’s even worse when we see others succeed because we see what their rewards are. The beauty of failure is the lessons learned. Some of the greatest success stories are littered with a past stocked with failure. Authors, business people, athletes will tell you that failure is part of the package.
Idea #1
We always learn from our failures. And the real value comes from what we do with the knowledge gained from failing. The challenge though is it seems as though there isn’t a second chance. Or that second chance is a much tougher path. So now we have to learn new things in addition to what we had to endure in the previous setting.
Idea #2
Like a lot of things in life, we don’t like to repeat things that produce pain or bad feelings. The feeling we get from failure is often bad enough to remember so we at least try not to replicate the feeling. Perhaps the thought of enduring that pain again is motivation enough to not repeat the things that lead to failure. This is a form of adaptation, where we use our knowledge to create better situations for ourselves.
Quote #1
“All my successes have been built on my failures.” -Benjamin Disraeli
Quote #2
“There is no innovation and creativity without failure. Period.” -Brene Brown
Quote #3
“Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.” -Robert F. Kennedy
Challenge
Don’t let the chance that you might fail deter you from pursuing something great.
Affirmation
Failure doesn’t define me. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow.
