Keep knowing yourself

Author: Leading and Love

As human beings we are surrounded by change and we ourselves undergo a lot of change. Some changes are deliberate and some occur naturally.

Environment matters and it might be the single thing that determines who we become. We can look around and choose the environment we want or we can be proactive and create the environment we think will serve us best.

When the environment changes, we follow suit. Even if we are steadfast in our beliefs, there tends to be some modification to our belief system over time.

Idea #1

Signals come before change. If your environment is showing signs of change, then you can expect those changes will ripple out to you eventually.

Idea #2

You can be a product of your environment and you can serve in your environment. If you are solely a product of your environment then you are relying on external forces to carry you, which means you will end up somewhere - good or bad. If you serve in your environment, then you enter in an autocatalytic cycle whereby as you serve, you contribute, and you become a product of your service and contribution.

Be around people that are going to make your life better, not worse.

Quote #1

“Your outlook upon life, your estimate of yourself, your estimate of your value are largely colored by your environment. Your whole career will be modified, shaped, molded by your surroundings, by the character of the people with whom you come in contact every day.” - Orison Swett Marden

Quote #2

“I don’t want to be a product of my environment. I want my environment to be a product of me.” -Jack Nicholson

Quote #3

You just get the vibes of your surroundings and it rubs off on you. -Gordon Lightfoot

Challenge

Take a hard look at yourself. Is the person you are today the person you have always wanted to be and someone you would like to remain forever?

I am who I want to be.
