On marriage and politics

Author: Leading and Love

We want what we want and once you have two people in a room, politics begins. All the tools have to be broken out to manage the situation in order to get to positive outcomes - communication, negotiation, engagement, collaboration, and the like.

Even though your marriage has political implications, don’t treat it as such. Spouses need to contribute to nurturing their relationship to guarantee mutually beneficial outcomes.

Idea #1

Happiness in marriage is a two spouse affair. Both spouses working together create a happy relationship. If the job is left to one spouse, neither will be happy in the marriage.

Idea #2

One of the most important things in a marriage is fairness. This might take a while to build into the relationship. The only way to know is to talk about. Never stop talking about it and never stop working together to build fairness.

Quote #1

“To get the full value of joy you must have someone to divide it with.” -Mark Twain

Quote #2

“If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.” -Mother Teresa

Quote #3

“The greatest marriages are built on teamwork. A mutual respect, a healthy dose of admiration, and a never-ending portion of love and grace.” -Fawn Weaver
