Practice

Author: Leading and Love

We are huge sports fans. Both my wife and I played competitive sports when we were younger. Soccer, rugby and cheerleading were her sports. Mine was basketball, soccer and track. Now I only play basketball and golf.  We both know and appreciate the tangible and intangible benefits of playing sports. Staying in shape is probably the first one that comes to mind, and it has been noted that exercise is very crucial to brain health. To be good, an athlete has to practice. To be the best, you have to know how to be excellent at practicing.

Idea #1

Practicing is taking what we know and understand and applying it. Practice is knowledge in action. Practice is putting what we hold as truth to work. The athlete who practices well knows what he is practicing. The athlete who struggles to practice well lacks understanding about what he is practicing. The career person who struggles to develop their acumen and skills is unaware of what acumen and skills to develop.

Idea #2

Spouses need to practice being good spouses in order to become good spouses. It’s always good to read the latest and greatest about making your marriage work but knowledge without action is fruitless. To become a great listener, you have to practice listening. More importantly, you have to know and believe that being a good listener makes you a better spouse.

"It's what you practice in private that you will be rewarded for in public."-Anthony Robbins

Quote #2

"Always realize that you can get better. Your best work has not been done yet. Practice! Practice! Practice!" -Les Brown

"The practice of gratitude empowers, heals, inspires, and fosters heartfelt well-being." -Angeles Arrien
