Resilience

Author: Leading and Love

Resilience speaks to one's ability to face and overcome challenges whether internal or external. It's the ability to quickly recover from difficulty. Resilient objects have the ability to spring back into shape after being stretched or pressed. Life is littered with ups and downs. If you get through today scot-free, you can almost rest assured there's something brewing on the horizon. Somethings you can handle easily while others are so brand new that you won’t even know where to start in trying to recover.

Idea #1

When you're married, resilience becomes a two spouse game. One person can only be tough for so long. Over time you will get bogged down with trying to handle the pressures of life. When both spouses practice building resilience then in the event one spouse is feeling incapable to deal with certain events, the other can carry the team.

Idea #2

Resilience is not a 1v1 matchup between you and your spouse. Many marriages fail because spouses spend oodles of energy building resilience against each other. That energy should be pooled and channeled toward the many external challenges that will bombard your marriage.

Quote #1

“Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it.” -Helen Keller

Quote #2

"Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken." -Ecclesiastes 4:12, NIV

Quote #3

“Do not judge me by my success, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again.” -Nelson Mandela

Challenge

Spouses can get into it sometimes for whatever reason. Rather than let conflict derail your relationship, you should get better at fighting for each other, and worse at fighting with each other.

Affirmation

Difficult situations are temporary.
