One way of measuring achievement is to assess progress.
Progress will signal how close you are to your starting point and how close you are to your goal.
Lack of progress can be debilitating while a lot of progress can be motivating
Depending on where you are going and what you set out to accomplish, even a small step can signal a lot of progress.
Idea #1
The key is starting. Once you have started, you have made progress. If your goal is to write a book, then saving a new file document with your book title qualifies as progress.
If you have taken a wrong turn, then turning around also adds to your progress.
Idea #2
Sometimes we only value progress from a significant point. Many times a lot of work goes into just being able to get to the starting block.
Feel free to expand your journey to include the very first step, not just the first significant milestone.
Quote #1
“Progress grows out of motion.” -Richard E. Byrd
Quote #2
“Do not confuse motion and progress. A rocking horse keeps moving but does not make any progress.” -Alfred A. Montapert
Quote #3
“A person who makes few mistakes makes little progress.” -Bryant McGill
Challenge
If you want to make progress, then whatever it is that you intend to do, just get started.
Affirmation
I have what it takes to get to my destination.
